A Professional Journey Rooted in Traditional Medicine & Modern Clinical Practice
Dr. Tia Trivisonno, ND, LAc, MSOM, has spent nearly two decades developing an integrative approach to medicine shaped by rigorous clinical training, traditional systems of healing, international study, and extensive experience working with complex health concerns.
She earned her degree in naturopathic medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, graduating with high honors in Classical Chinese Medicine and earning a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine. Her training provided a strong foundation in naturopathic medicine alongside the classical principles of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and whole-person care.
Her postgraduate education has continued throughout her career. Dr. Tia completed extensive training in Classical Homeopathy through the New England School of Homeopathy and pursued advanced study in European biological and bioregulatory medicine, NAET, Bioresonance Analysis of Health, five-element acupuncture, anthroposophical medicine, and women's health.
Nearly Two Decades of Complex Clinical Care
For close to 20 years, Dr. Tia has worked in collaboration with holistic psychiatrist Dr. Michael Gurevich on Long Island. Much of her clinical career has been spent working with individuals with complex chronic and neuropsychiatric conditions, including many who came to her after years of searching for answers.
Much of her clinical experience has included working with individuals with complex and chronic health concerns, including many who have come to her after years of searching for answers. These experiences have profoundly influenced the way she approaches medicine. Rather than viewing the body as a collection of isolated systems, she looks for relationships and patterns, between physical and emotional health, digestion and the brain, environment and physiology, and symptoms and the individual's larger story.
A Lifelong Study of Chinese Medicine & Qigong
Dr. Tia's education in Chinese medicine did not end with her graduate degree. She has traveled to China multiple times to deepen her studies in Classical Chinese Medicine, Daoist traditions, and Qigong.
She is a fourth-generation disciple of Jinjing Gong (Tendon & Meridian Opening Qigong) in the lineage of Master Wang Qingyu. Qigong remains an important part of both her personal practice and her understanding of vitality, resilience, and the lifelong cultivation of health.
A Global Perspective on Health & Healing
Long before becoming a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Tia was interested in the relationship between human health and the health of the natural world. She earned her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Environmental Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and studied Ayurvedic medicine in India as an undergraduate.
Following college, she spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, an experience that deepened her respect for nature, service, cultural traditions, and indigenous approaches to health and healing.
These experiences continue to influence both her personal and professional philosophy. Contributing to the health of each individual contributes to a healthier planet.
Beyond the Clinic
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Tia enjoys surfing, traveling, practicing Qigong, and playing music. Her continued exploration of nature, movement, traditional medicine, and cultures around the world reflects the same curiosity and love of learning that have shaped her professional journey.
She has lectured nationally and internationally, contributed to professional education, and co-authored published journal work in the field of integrative medicine.
My Story
My passion for naturopathic medicine was born out of love while processing grief from the loss of my father. He suffered from complications associated with kidney disease and high blood pressure, and the surgeries and medications he was prescribed failed to deliver a solution. I will never forget the moment I heard my mother say that she wished someone could intervene who knew how to TREAT THE WHOLE PERSON. It was at that very moment that I became dedicated to the pursuit of better health education for individuals and their families.
